Riverside Township recently learned that the Brookfield based St. Barbara Lending Closet for durable medical goods has closed permanently.
The Township has maintained its own Nurse’s Closet for well over 20 years, offering free loans of medical items to countless residents of the Township. Due to tax funding, our services are generally only available to residents living within the Township: Harlem to 9th Avenue and Cermak to 39th.
In view of the fact that our closet is stocked from donations, and we do not have any direct outlay of tax dollars for this service, at its meeting on September 9, 2025, the Riverside Township Board of Trustees approved the expansion of our lending closet service area, beyond the Township borders, to now include ALL of Riverside, North Riverside, and Brookfield.
We hope this will alleviate some of the concerns of those who have come to rely on the former Lending Closet on 47th Street.
The Riverside Township Nurse’s Closet is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm and Friday from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm.
Please note that loans are for up to 3 months.
We accept donations of durable medical goods, but sorry, due to limitations of storage space we DO NOT accept: hospital beds, soft, fabric items of a personal nature, or mechanical, and electronic equipment.
