The Senior Citizen Tax Deferral Program deadline, for property tax year 2023, is also Friday, March 1, 2024. Homeowners must be 65 years old by June 1st of 2023 and total household income must be $65,000 or less. This program allows qualified seniors to defer a maximum of $7,500 per tax year on their primary home. This deferral acts as a loan from the State of Illinois and is paid when the property is sold or upon death of the participant. This deferral program is not the same as the Senior Freeze Exemption.
Senior Freeze Exemption Applications are expected to be mailed out by the Cook County Assessor’s Office in March.
Taxpayers applying for the Homeowner, Senior Citizen, Senior Freeze, or Disabled Homeowner Exemption for the first time will be able to find these applications on the Cook County Assessor’s website and in the Riverside Township Assessor’s Office. Availability is expected in mid-March.
Remember, exemptions are always applied to the Second Installment Property Tax Bill. If you believe an exemption was missing from your 2022 second installment bill, please call the Riverside Township Assessor. The office can help Township residents with missing exemptions by assisting with Certificate of Error applications. Call the Riverside Township Assessor at (708) 447-7700 or send an email to: assessor@riversidetownship.org. Office hours are currently Monday – Friday, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.
