Second installment property tax payments are generally due in early August. For various reasons, the mailing of the 2020 second installment property tax bill has been delayed, subsequently resulting in a delay of the due date for the second installment payment.
There are a number of steps that must take place before second installment property tax bills can be calculated and mailed. At this time, 2020 assessment appeals have been completed by the Cook County Assessor and the Cook County Board of Review, and the state equalization factor has been released by the Illinois Department of Revenue. Next, the Cook County Assessor’s Office must complete calculating 2020 exemption values so that the Cook County Clerk’s office will be able to calculate the local tax rates. Once these agencies have completed their steps, the Cook County Treasurer’s Office will post property tax amounts online, and print and mail the 2020 property tax bills.
It is possible the tax bills will be mailed by the end of July, with an early September due date. It is also possible the delay could be longer. Updated information may be found on the Cook County Treasurer’s website at: www.cookcountytreasurer.com.
