2019 Second Installment Property Tax Bills Available Online
2019 Second Installment Property Tax bills have been posted to the Cook County Treasurer’s Office website. Taxpayers are able to view, pay, and print out a copy of their property tax bills online. The Second Installment is due August 3 2020, however taxpayers may pay without interest penalties through October 1, 2020 thanks to a recent ordinance passed by the Board of Commissioners. 2019 Second Installment property tax bills will be mailed to taxpayers in early July.
Second Installment property tax bills include property tax exemptions calculated by the Cook County Assessor and local tax rates calculated by the Cook County Clerk. This bill contains a lot of information about where your property tax dollars go and how your property taxes are calculated. It’s a must read!
2020 Assessed Valuation Appeal Update
Riverside Township began the 2020 appeal cycle on February 11th and the last day to file an appeal with the Cook County Assessor was on May 1, 2020. This turned out to be an unusually long appeal period due to the COVID 19 situation. Cook County offices were vacated and almost everyone was working from home. It is our understanding that appeals are still being processed. Hopefully we will see those decision letters within the next few weeks.
The next step in the appeal process takes place with the Cook County Board of Review. The Board cannot proceed until the Assessor’s Office decides on the current appeals and then certifies the data. Please keep in mind the 2020 Assessed Value will be used to calculate the amount of property taxes you will pay in 2021.
Working With the Riverside Township Assessor’s Office
The Riverside Township Assessor’s Office has been busy determining new ways in which we can continue to stay in contact and assist our taxpayers. Our Constant Contact Communication has proven to be one of the best ways for us to keep our taxpayers informed in a timely and efficient way. We will continue to use this platform along with our Township Website to share information.
As most of you are aware, our office is small and cannot accommodate the same amount of one on one appointments we have enjoyed in the past. We are encouraging everyone to please call to schedule appointments in advance and to also make use of email communications whenever possible.
We have equipped the third floor of Town Hall with new traffic flow patterns and provided a sneeze guard protected sign in stand at the door to our office. We can only accommodate occupancy up to 6 people at a time not including staff on the entire floor. If you are coming in for an appointment please remember to wear a face cover. We will also wear a face cover when we greet you at our office door.
The Township Offices and Village offices which occupy Town Hall have taken steps to protect visitors and employees alike. We greatly appreciate your cooperation and look forward to continuing to serve the taxpayers of Riverside Township.
As always we are available to address your property tax questions.
