The Riverside Township is proud to announce that a Grant in the amount of $858 has been awarded to the Riverside Public Library.
Awarded on November 19, 2019, the Library’s Children and Youth Services Department would utilize the funds to purchase 2 new iPads to replace current devices within the department. The current iPads are used by preschoolers through elementary school children for a variety of activities. Originally purchased prior to 2012, they are at the end of their life span due both to their age, heavy usage, and inability to hold a battery charge.
The Library’s young patrons love using the iPads in the CYS Department. They are used every day by dozens of children. While playing games on the iPad can be fun, the iPads there are used primarily as a learning tool. CYS staff searched for programs that focus on a variety of topics like STEAM (including art, music, and coding), early literacy, school skills, and motor skills. These iPads also support children in the community whose families are unable to afford the use of this technology. Developing tech skills helps prepare children to use tools that will be used in future classrooms.
