Now is the time to file your Assessed Valuation Appeals with the Cook County Board of Review for your property taxes. The deadline to file an appeal is Tuesday, October 10, 2023. All Riverside Township property owners were reassessed earlier this year by the Cook County Assessor’s Office. Appealing the first year of a triennial reassessment can give residents the best opportunity in lowering assessed values if records indicate that the property is not assessed equitably.
Reasons to appeal your property taxes:
- Lack of uniformity – your property is assessed higher than other properties in your neighborhood of similar size, style, and construction.
- Market value – the Assessor’s market value is higher than the property’s actual market value if the property was purchased after January 1, 2020.
- Error in description – such as incorrect square feet of living space.
- Uninhabitable – your property was uninhabitable for all, or part of, the year due to fire or flood damage.

If you are unable to file an appeal online, or do not have a computer with internet access, the Township Assessor’s Office can assist you. Please call the Township Assessor, Fran Sitkiewicz, at (708) 447-7700 to schedule an in-person appointment, or send an email with your name, address, and phone number to: assessor@riversidetownship.org. Office hours during the appeal period are Monday – Friday, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. After hours and evening appointments are available upon request. The Township Assessor’s Office can help residents determine the best reason to file an appeal, provide comparable properties, ensure that supporting evidence and documentation is complete, and assist new homeowners with first time appeals.
